Fasching & Valentines, F and H (February 4-8, 2013)

This week in Reception 1, we learned the true stories behind the Valentine's Day and Fasching holidays. We made hearts of all kinds as valentines for our family and friends. We also made Karneval masks with Mr. Bernard. We had a Valentine's Party on Thursday, and a Fasching festival on Friday. We had lots of fun this week while learning!

The Horses at Work

 

This week Miss Jolian took the Horses upstairs to work in Ms. Burnell's room with Ms. Burnell. They colored heart H's, painted hearts, and strung yearn through hearts. The Horses were proud of the work they did! Ms. Burnell was also happy with what they were able to achieve.

Tiger Territory

The Tigers made lots of valentines, so everyone would have some for the party. Also,

Tigers made larger valentines to take home to someone they love.

Reception 1 kids have a new song to sing, and we have been practicing it.

When we return from break, Mr. Bentgens will sing the song with us and play his guitar.

Then, we can perform this song in assembly, and teach the whole primary school!

Also, to reinforce learning, we watch Sesame Street videos in Reception 1.

How Animals Stay Warm (January 27 to February 1, 2013)

This week in Reception 1, we talked about how animals stay warm. Mr. Bernard and Ms. Kristina told us about different kinds of animals, like bees, birds, bears, and even people, and their fur, feathers, how they move, and what they do to stay warm. Miss Jolian brought in some real furs from different animals to show us. Mr. Bernard pretended to shear us when we acted like sheep, and we watched different videos of animals trying to stay warm, like chickens and penguins.

 

Questions for your child:

 

What are different things animals do or have on their bodies to keep them warm?

How do bees stay warm? How do penguins stay warm? How do foxes stay warm? What is "huddling" together? Are there different kinds of feathers? Are there different kinds of fur?

 

The Tigers and Horses worked separately this week. The Tigers got to try out their new room upstairs every day, and we learned some new words, did some reading together, wrote words, and did more addition. Miss Jolian presented a short lesson about February on Friday morning to the Horses, and for most of the week, the Horses and the Tigers were split during morning circle time, so we could work on German and English language skills better.
