This week, we talked about who we are, and what our favorite things, places, people, foods, and colors are. We talked about what makes us special -- things like our names, our birthdays, and how we look. We began learning the song "Our Favorite Things" (links and lyrics to this song below).
OUR FAVORITE THINGS
Hugo brought a favorite book,
and shows us spiders
Lani's favorite toy, her giraffe
Alessandra's favorite -- her "Kitty"
Devi brought her doll from India.
Ms. Fathema shows us her favorite toys:
her collectible helicopters.
Jacob wanted to bring his mommy (his favorite thing),
but he brought two knights instead.
Mika brought his windup, buzzing mouse. (Video, too!)
Joshua brought his dragon.
A favorite thing for Ms. Kristina and Greta to do: READ!
Favorite friends Alessio and Jacob read and discuss pirates
Cody's favorite disguise: the lion
In math, we learned all about squares, with a new square song to dance to: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb8Y38eilRM.
We made squares with popsicle sticks, drew squares in the air, walked in squares, and formed squares during group times. When we sorted shapes, EVERYONE in Reception 1 knew what a square was! (This made Ms. Kristina VERY happy!)
Lucie likes squares
Joshua making a square out of popsicle sticks
Navneeth made lines of squares...
Devi made a pattern of squares...
Lani made two rows of squares...
and Finn made stacks of squares.
Working together, Alessio and Mika
made the longest line of squares!
Squares, squares, everywhere!
AFTER LEARNING, IT'S...
Serving up something good in the R1 kitchen
Playing Jenga with Mr. Bernard
Trying not to make the blocks fall
Singing fun songs with Mr. Bentgens
DOING OUR SCHOOL JOBS
It makes me happy to help!
Our doorholder this week,
in the most fashionable of garb
We're getting to know each other better, and it's fun!
Hugs help when you need one
The faithful Mr. Steinkamp on duty
Miss Fathema and intern Moritz on a chilly September day
Emptying the sand from our shoes
See? No sand left! All clean.
Decorating our new work portfolios
Greta and Mika work hard on cleaning our chairs.
Joshua, floor cleaner this week, recruits Lani to help.
We like to make our room better!
No one said girls can't help drill screws into broken wagons!
Enjoying MIS is the best job we have!
REMINDER:
Parents' Night is Tuesday, September 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. We hope to see you in the Reception 1 Classroom.
"My Favorite Things" (Rodgers & Hammerstein)
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
[Repeat all verses]
