Insects and the Letter I (April 15-19, 2013)

This week in Reception 1, we learned all about insects: how they're different from other animals on the planet, what kinds of insects there are, what makes an insect an insect, and more. We made lots of different kinds of insects, too.

Some new vocabulary learned this week:

Insect - Insekten
Head
Thorax
Abdomen
Exoskeleton
Wasp - Wespe
Caterpillar
Beetle
Pupa
Adult

Questions to ask your child -- especially the Tigers:

1. Is a spider an insect? Why not?
2. What are the three parts of an insect's body?
3. Do insects have skeletons on the inside or the outside of their bodies?
4. Where do insects live?
5. What do insects eat?
6. What animals eat insects?

We learned a new song -- "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" --  and we will try to sing it during assembly in two weeks.
