Birds, Butterflies, Bunnies and the Letter B (March 25-27, 2013)

This week in Reception 1, the children worked with the letter B, thinking of words in English and German that start with B. The plan was to do birds, butterflies and bunnies, but the Tigers got stuck on birds (and we even learned about bats). The Horses made all three! We will come back to butterflies when we learn about bugs in a few weeks.

Everyone enjoy your Easter Break!

Plants (March 18-22, 2013)

This week in Reception 1, we learned about planting and growing. The Tigers learned about the parts of a plant, from the roots to the flower. All of us planted seeds with Ms. Krisztina and Mr. Bernard, and we can already watch them grow! We also made plant pictures, and we created plants with shapes. The Tigers learned what 5 things a plant needs to grow (soil, water, light, air and space). Horses worked on the letter E, and everyone learned more about the letter P.

 Plants need soil to grow

The Tigers got to decorate their own clay pots before planting.

Now we will see what happens next!

We have to water our plants.

Look how the seeds are starting to split open and sprout!

We can also plant some seeds on paper to see if they grow.

What is happening to our seeds?

Saud's plant starts out with just a few diamond buds

Wow! Look at that tall flower!

We all create our own beautiful designs.

Every one of them is unique.

And then we counted the shapes in our plants!
